SendGrid integration: connect via API key, verify contact lists

Last updated May 19, 2026Integrations

SendGrid uses API-key authentication. Generate a key with Marketing access in SendGrid, paste it into our dashboard, and you are connected.

Where to find your SendGrid API key

  1. Sign into SendGrid.
  2. Open Settings → API Keys in the SendGrid sidebar.
  3. Click Create API Key.
  4. Pick Restricted Access and grant Marketing → Full Access (needed for both reading lists and applying cleanup writes).
  5. Name the key (e.g., "Valid Email Checker") and create it.
  6. Copy the key — it starts with SG. and is only shown once.

Connecting SendGrid

  1. In our dashboard, go to Bulk Upload → Connect Email Platform → SendGrid.
  2. Paste the API key.
  3. Optionally name the connection.
  4. Click Save Connection.

What you can verify

  • Contact lists — manually curated lists in SendGrid Marketing.
  • Segments — filter-defined dynamic groups.

Common SendGrid issues

"API key has wrong scope"

SendGrid distinguishes between Mail Send keys (transactional sending) and Marketing keys (contacts, lists, campaigns). For our integration you need a Marketing key with read + write scopes. A Full Access key works too if you do not want to fiddle with restricted scopes.

"Cleanup did not unsubscribe contacts I expected"

SendGrid has multiple contact databases (Marketing Contacts vs. legacy Contact Database). Our integration uses the Marketing Contacts database. If your contacts are in the legacy system, they will not show up in our list picker. Migrate to Marketing Contacts in SendGrid first, then re-connect.
