How do I select a specific SendGrid list to verify?
SendGrid organizes contacts into Lists and Segments inside the Marketing Contacts product. Valid Email Checker reads both shapes through the SendGrid API and surfaces them in a single searchable picker. The integration requires a Marketing-scoped API key — the SendGrid integration guide walks through generating one.
Opening the picker
- Open Integrations in the VEC sidebar.
- Find the SendGrid row in Connected Integrations.
- Click the three-dot menu and pick Sync Now.
- A modal opens with the SendGrid logo, the connection name, and the list picker.
- Pick exactly one row using the radio button.
What appears in the picker
- Contact lists — manually curated lists in SendGrid Marketing.
- Segments — filter-defined dynamic groups inside Marketing Contacts.
- Subscriber counts — pulled live from SendGrid for each list and segment.
- Search field — filters by name in real time.
SendGrid maintains two distinct contact databases: Marketing Contacts (the modern product) and the legacy Contact Database. VEC reads from Marketing Contacts only. If your contacts live in the legacy system, they will not appear in the picker — migrate them to Marketing Contacts inside SendGrid first.
Sizing the cost
The credits-needed line at the bottom of the modal uses the SendGrid contact count. Duplicate removal (on by default) lowers the actual spend. Unknown-status results refund automatically after verification.
Refreshing list data
Click the refresh icon at the top of the modal. VEC re-queries SendGrid and updates contact counts in place. Useful after importing contacts, creating new segments, or editing segment filters.
After picking the list
Choose Verify Only (default — SendGrid untouched) or Clean List Automatically below the picker. Verify Only is the recommended starting point for any new segment. Hit Import List, and you are redirected to Uploads & Results to watch progress.
Troubleshooting
- List missing — your SendGrid API key may lack Marketing scope. Generate a new key with Restricted Access → Marketing → Full Access (or Full Access if you prefer not to fiddle with scopes).
- Empty picker — the SendGrid account uses the legacy Contact Database instead of Marketing Contacts. Migrate first.
- Segment count zero — the Segment filter rules currently match no contacts. VEC blocks Import on zero-count rows.
