How to Connect SendGrid
One API key, three clicks, and you are verifying.
Create Your API Key
Log into your SendGrid account and navigate to Settings → API Keys. Click Create API Keyin the top right corner. Give it a descriptive name like "Valid Email Checker Integration" and select Full Access for permissions. Click Create & View to generate your key.
Important: SendGrid only shows your API key once when you create it. Copy it immediately and store it somewhere safe. If you lose it, you will need to create a new one.
Connect Your Account
In ValidEmailChecker, go to Integrations and click + Connect Integration. Select SendGrid, enter a friendly connection name like "My SendGrid Account," paste your API Key, and click Connect Account. We validate your key instantly and pull in your available lists.
Select a List and Configure
Once connected, you will see all your SendGrid lists plus an "All Contacts" option with contact counts. Select the list you want to verify, then choose Verify Only to review results without changes, or Clean Automatically to remove invalid and disposable emails directly from SendGrid. You control what happens to each email type — unsubscribe, delete, or keep.
Tip:"Delete" is permanent in SendGrid and cannot be undone. Start with "Verify Only" on your first run, or choose "Unsubscribe" to keep contacts in your account while preventing sends.
Track Results in Real Time
Click Import Listand you will be redirected to the Uploads & Results page. Progress updates automatically — no refreshing needed. When complete, you get a full breakdown of safe, invalid, risky, disposable, catch-all, and more. If you chose automatic cleaning, changes are already applied to your SendGrid account.

SendGrid Tips
Dedicated IP Protection
If you use SendGrid dedicated IPs, clean lists are critical. Your IP reputation is built on your sending behavior — sending to bad addresses damages it quickly. Regular verification protects your investment.
Unsubscribe vs Delete
API Key Best Practices
Troubleshooting
"Invalid API Key" Error
Make sure you copied the full API key without extra spaces or missing characters. Verify the key has not been deleted in SendGrid. Create a new key with Full Access if needed — SendGrid only shows keys once at creation.
No Lists Found
Ensure you have contacts in your SendGrid account and that Marketing Campaigns is enabled on your plan. Check that your API key has Full Access permissions. Try creating a new key if the issue persists.
Connection Timeout
SendGrid may be experiencing temporary issues. Wait a few minutes and try again. Check the SendGrid Status page for outages. Large contact lists may take longer to sync initially.
"Unsubscribe" Not Working
Verify your API key has Full Access (write permissions). The contact may already be on your suppression list. Check SendGrid suppression lists manually, or try the "Delete" action instead if appropriate.

No. Connecting and syncing your SendGrid account is completely free. You only use credits when you actually verify emails — 1 credit per email, same as every other verification method.
Only positively. Removing invalid and risky emails before sending improves your deliverability and protects your sender reputation — especially important if you use dedicated IP addresses.
Yes. Connect as many accounts as you need — one for each brand, project, or client. Each gets its own named connection so you can tell them apart in the dashboard.
When you choose "Delete," contacts are permanently removed from SendGrid with no recovery option. If you are unsure, choose "Unsubscribe" instead — it adds contacts to the suppression list so they will not receive emails but remain in your account.
Unsubscribed contacts can be removed from suppression lists in SendGrid. Deleted contacts cannot be recovered — you would need to re-add them manually. Start with "Verify Only" first if you are unsure.
Before every major campaign, monthly for active lists with new signups, quarterly for stable lists, and always after importing contacts from other sources.
