Generating Your MailerLite API Token

MailerLite uses API tokens for authentication. You will need to generate one — it takes about 30 seconds.

How to generate your token:

1

Open Integrations

Log in to MailerLite and click Integrations in the left sidebar. Find the MailerLite API section and click Use.

2

Generate Token

On the Developer API page, click Generate new token. Give it a name like "Valid Email Checker Integration" and click Create token.

3

Copy Immediately

Copy the full token string right away. MailerLite only shows it once — you will not be able to see it again after closing the dialog.

Copy Your Token Immediately

MailerLite only shows your full API token once — right after you create it. After you close the dialog, you will only see the token's name. If you lose it, you will need to generate a new one. Copy it and store it somewhere safe before continuing.

How to Connect MailerLite

The entire setup takes under a minute. Here is exactly what to do.

1

Generate Your API Token

Log in to your MailerLite account. Click Integrations in the left sidebar, find the MailerLite API section, and click Use. On the Developer API page, click Generate new token, give it a name, and click Create token. Copy the entire token string immediately — MailerLite only shows it once.

You will need:

API Token

eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbG...

2

Connect Your Account

In ValidEmailChecker, go to Bulk Upload and click Connect Email Platform, or navigate to Integrationsand find MailerLite. Enter an optional connection name (like "My MailerLite Account" or "Agency — Client ABC"), paste your API Token, and click Connect Account. We verify your token instantly and establish the connection.

3

Select a Group and Configure

After connecting, click Sync Now to see all your MailerLite subscriber groups with contact counts. Use the search box to find specific groups. Select the group you want to verify, then choose your mode: Verify Only to review results before making changes, or Clean Automatically to remove invalid and disposable emails directly in MailerLite. You control exactly what happens to each email type.

Important: Delete will permanently remove contacts from your MailerLite account with no undo. If you are unsure, use Unsubscribe instead — it keeps the contact record but stops them from receiving emails. Start with "Verify Only" first.

Track Results in Real Time

Click Import Listand you will be redirected to the Uploads & Results page where you can watch progress in real time. No need to refresh — the page updates automatically. You do not need to keep the page open either — verification continues in the background. When complete, you get a full breakdown. Download results in CSV, XLSX, JSON, or TXT. If you chose automatic cleaning, changes are already applied.

Two Ways to Verify

Verify Only

Import and verify your subscribers without modifying anything in MailerLite. Review results, download reports, and decide what to do next — on your terms.

Best for:

First-time users and cautious approach
Reviewing list quality before campaigns
Lists you cannot risk modifying
Compliance requirements

Clean Automatically Recommended

Verify and clean in one step. Invalid emails get unsubscribed or deleted directly from your MailerLite account — no manual work required.

You control:

Invalid → Unsubscribe, Delete, or Keep
Disposable → Unsubscribe, Delete, or Keep
Catch-all & Risky → Your choice

Delete vs Unsubscribe in MailerLite

Understanding the difference helps you choose the right cleaning action for each email type.

Unsubscribe

Moves the contact to your unsubscribed list. They still exist in your account but will not receive any campaigns or automations.

Best for:

Invalid emails where you want to preserve the record
Contacts you may want to review later
Safer option when you are unsure

Delete

Permanently removes the contact from MailerLite. No trace remains — no record, no history, no way to undo.

Best for:

Disposable and throwaway email addresses
Fake signups and spam entries
Emails you never want in your database

Our Recommendation

Use Unsubscribe for Invalid emails (safer, preserves the record) and Delete for Disposable emails (fake or temporary addresses you do not want in your database at all). Keep Catch-all and Risky emails for manual review.

Tracking Your Verification Progress

Once verification starts, you are automatically redirected to the Uploads & Results page where everything updates in real time — no refreshing needed.

Managing Your MailerLite Connection

Connection Actions

Click the three-dot menu next to any connection on your Integrations page:

Sync Now

Refresh your subscriber groups and counts from MailerLite.

Rename

Change the connection display name.

Delete

Remove this connection entirely. Does not affect MailerLite.

When to Sync:

Use Sync Now when you have added new groups or subscribers in MailerLite and want to see them in ValidEmailChecker. It refreshes the available groups without affecting your verification history.

Multiple Accounts

Managing email marketing for multiple brands or clients? Connect them all.

1

Go to Bulk Upload → Connect Email Platform

2

Select MailerLite and see existing connections

3

Click "+ Add Another Account"

4

Enter the new account's API Token and give it a unique name

Name each connection clearly: "Agency — Client ABC," "Newsletter Brand," "Personal Account." Each MailerLite account needs its own API token.

Credits & Billing

1 Credit = 1 Email

Same rate as all other verification methods.

Unknown = Refunded

Credits returned instantly for unverifiable emails.

Duplicates = Free

Removed before charging — you only pay for unique emails.

Connecting = Free

Syncing your groups never uses credits.

Credits Running Low?

Before importing, you will see exactly how many credits the verification will use. If you do not have enough, you can purchase more credits instantly or set up auto-refill so you never run out during a critical verification.

Team Member Access

Team members can connect their own MailerLite accounts and run verifications using the shared team credit balance. The account owner can see credits used by each team member in the transaction history.

MailerLite-Specific Tips

A few things unique to MailerLite that are worth knowing before you start verifying.

Groups vs Lists

MailerLite organizes subscribers into "Groups" which function exactly like lists. When you connect ValidEmailChecker, you will see all your groups available for verification. They are the same thing — just MailerLite's naming convention.

Note: Segment-level verification is not available through the integration. To verify specific segments, export them from MailerLite as a CSV and use bulk upload.

After Auto-Clean Runs

Here is what happens in your MailerLite account after automatic cleaning:

Unsubscribed

Moved to your unsubscribed list. Still exist in your account but will not receive campaigns.

Deleted

Completely removed from MailerLite. No trace remains — no record, no history.

View unsubscribed contacts in MailerLite under All Subscribers → Unsubscribed.

API Token Visibility

MailerLite only shows your API token once — immediately after creation. After you close the dialog, you will only see the token's name. ValidEmailChecker also never displays your full token after initial connection. If you lose your token or suspect it has been compromised, generate a new one in MailerLite and reconnect.

Troubleshooting

"Invalid API Token" Error

The API token may be incorrect, incomplete, or revoked. Go to MailerLite → Integrations → API and check if your token is still listed and active. If not, generate a new token. Make sure you copy the entire token string without extra spaces.

"No Lists Found" Error

Your MailerLite account has no subscriber groups, or they are all empty. Log in to MailerLite, go to Subscribers, and verify you have at least one group with contacts. If using a new account, add some subscribers first.

Verification Stuck or Failed

Check your MailerLite API token is still valid — tokens can be revoked from the MailerLite dashboard. Try clicking Sync Now on the connection and attempt the verification again. If the issue persists, contact support.

Changes Not Appearing in MailerLite

Auto-clean actions take a few minutes to sync. Refresh your MailerLite subscriber page and check the Unsubscribed section for emails marked as unsubscribed. Review your activity log in MailerLite to confirm the changes were applied.

"Insufficient Credits" Error

Your credit balance is lower than the list size. You will see the exact credit count needed before importing. Purchase more credits or verify a smaller group first. You can also set up auto-refill to prevent this in the future.

Some Emails Show "Unknown" Status

This happens when we cannot definitively verify an email — for example, the mail server did not respond or timed out. Credits for Unknown results are automatically refunded. You can re-verify these emails later.

Best Practices for MailerLite List Hygiene

Before Your First Verification

Start with a smaller group to test the process
Use "Verify Only" mode first
Review results before enabling auto-cleaning
Understand the difference between Delete and Unsubscribe

Ongoing List Hygiene

Verify before major campaigns (a week in advance)
Quarterly for actively growing lists
After importing purchased or collected leads
When you notice bounce rates increasing

Recommended Actions

Invalid → Unsubscribe (preserves record)
Disposable → Delete (fake/temporary emails)
Catch-all → Keep (may be valid)
Unknown → Keep (review manually)

Frequently Asked Questions

No — that is the whole point of the integration. ValidEmailChecker connects directly to MailerLite and imports your subscriber groups automatically. No CSV exports, no manual uploads, no spreadsheet juggling.

Only if you choose "Clean list automatically." If you select "Verify Only," your MailerLite list remains completely untouched — we just read the data and verify it. You review results and decide what to do next on your own terms.

Not directly through the integration — MailerLite imports entire groups. To verify specific segments, export them from MailerLite as a CSV and use our bulk upload feature instead. We are working on segment-level support for a future update.

We recommend verifying before major campaigns (about a week in advance), quarterly for actively growing lists, immediately after importing purchased or collected leads, and whenever you notice bounce rates increasing. Email data decays at roughly 2% per month.

Deleting the integration removes the connection from ValidEmailChecker. It does not delete anything from MailerLite, does not remove your verification history, and does not reverse any auto-clean actions already performed. You can reconnect at any time with a new API token.

Yes. Your MailerLite API token is encrypted and stored securely on our servers. We never display your full token after the initial connection. You can delete the connection at any time to revoke access from our side.

Absolutely. Connect as many MailerLite accounts as you need — one for each brand, client, or business. Give each a unique name (like "Agency — Client ABC" or "Newsletter Brand") so you can tell them apart.

MailerLite organizes subscribers into "Groups" which function like lists. When you connect ValidEmailChecker, you will see all your groups available for verification. They are the same thing — just MailerLite's naming convention.

No. Connecting and syncing your account is completely free. You only use credits when you actually verify emails — 1 credit per email, same as every other verification method. Duplicates are removed before charging.

No. Deleted contacts are permanently removed from MailerLite. Unsubscribed contacts are moved to your unsubscribed list — they still exist in your account but will not receive campaigns. This is why we recommend starting with "Verify Only" to review results first.
