How to Connect GetResponse

The entire setup takes under a minute. Here is exactly what to do.

1

Generate Your GetResponse API Key

Log in to your GetResponse account. Click Tools in the top navigation, select Integrations and API, then click the API tab. Click Generate API key, give your key a descriptive name (like "Valid Email Checker"), and copy the generated key.

You will need:

API Key

b7f3e2a9c1d4f8e6a5b2...

One key per integration: GetResponse recommends creating a separate API key for each integration. This way, if you ever need to revoke access for one app, your other integrations keep working.

2

Connect Your Account

In ValidEmailChecker, go to Integrations in the sidebar (or click Bulk Upload → Connect Email Platform). Find and click GetResponse. Enter a friendly connection name (like "My GetResponse Account") and paste the API key you just copied. Click Connect Account and we will verify your credentials instantly and sync your lists. You will see a success message when connected.

What we access: We only read your contact lists for verification and optionally update contact statuses if you choose automatic cleaning. We never send emails, access your campaigns, or modify your account settings.

3

Select a List and Configure

Once connected, you will see all your GetResponse lists with subscriber counts. Browse or search your available lists — each shows the number of contacts (e.g., "Optin Subscribers — USA (250)"). Select the list you want to verify, then choose your mode: Verify Only to review results before making changes, or Clean Automatically to remove invalid and disposable emails from your GetResponse list in real time.

Auto-cleaning is permanent:When you delete contacts from GetResponse through auto-cleaning, they are removed from that list. Make sure you are comfortable with the settings before proceeding. Start with "Verify Only" first.

Track Results in Real Time

Click Import Listand you will be redirected to the Uploads & Results page where you can watch progress in real time. No need to refresh — the page updates automatically. For large lists, feel free to close the browser; verification continues in the background. When complete, click View Results to see the full breakdown. If you chose automatic cleaning, the changes are already applied to your GetResponse list.

Two Ways to Verify

Verify Only

Import and verify your list without modifying anything in GetResponse. Review results, download reports, and decide what to do next — on your terms.

Best for:

First-time verifications
Understanding your list quality
Compliance requirements
Cautious, hands-on approach

Clean Automatically Recommended

Verify and clean in one step. Invalid emails are unsubscribed or deleted directly from your GetResponse list — no manual work required.

You control each email type:

Invalid → Unsubscribe, Delete, or Keep
Disposable → Unsubscribe, Delete, or Keep
Catch-all & Unknown → Your choice
Risky → Your choice

Unsubscribe vs Delete in GetResponse

Unsubscribe

Marks the contact as unsubscribed in that list. They stop receiving emails but remain in your GetResponse suppression list. You can resubscribe them manually later if needed.

Delete

Permanently removes the contact from that list. They cannot be recovered — they would need to opt in again. Use this for disposable and clearly invalid addresses.

Tracking Your Verification Progress

Once verification starts, you are automatically redirected to the Uploads & Results page where everything updates in real time — no refreshing needed.

What you will see for each task:

Credits & Billing

1 Credit = 1 Email

Same rate as all other verification methods.

Unknown = Refunded

Credits returned instantly for unverifiable emails.

Duplicates = Free

Removed before charging — you only pay for unique emails.

Balance Visible

Check credits in the top-right corner of your dashboard.

Credits Running Low?

If you do not have enough credits for your list size, you can purchase more credits instantly or set up auto-refill so you never run out during a critical verification.

Team Member Access

Team members can connect their own GetResponse accounts and run verifications using the shared team credit balance. The account owner can see credits used by each team member in the transaction history.

GetResponse Tips

API Key Best Practices

GetResponse recommends creating a separate API key for each integration. Follow these guidelines to keep your account secure.

Create a dedicated key for ValidEmailChecker
Give your key a descriptive name
Regenerate if you suspect compromise
Share keys across multiple services
Share your API key publicly
Use your main account API key

Automations & Workflows

Important things to know about how verification interacts with your GetResponse automations and workflows.

Verification does not affect your active automations or workflows
Contacts in automations are included if they belong to a synced list
Contacts removed via auto-clean are removed from the specific list only
"All Contacts" appears as an option — this includes contacts from all your lists

Verification Time Estimates

Verification time depends on list size. Here is what to expect — you can close the browser at any time and verification continues in the background.

Troubleshooting

"Invalid API Key" Error

Double-check that you copied the complete API key with no extra spaces before or after. Make sure the key is still active in GetResponse (Tools → Integrations & API → API). If the current key is not working, generate a new one in GetResponse and update your connection.

Lists Not Showing Up

Click Sync Now to refresh your lists. Check that your lists have at least one contact in GetResponse. Verify your API key has proper permissions. If lists still do not appear, try disconnecting and reconnecting with a fresh API key.

Connection Shows "Disconnected"

Your API key may have been revoked or expired in GetResponse. Log in to GetResponse, go to Tools → Integrations & API → API, and check if your key is still active. If not, generate a new key, delete the old connection in ValidEmailChecker, and reconnect with the new key.

Some Emails Show "Unknown" Status

This happens when we cannot definitively verify an email — for example, the mail server did not respond or timed out. Credits for Unknown results are automatically refunded to your account. You can re-verify these emails later for a fresh check.

Changes Not Appearing in GetResponse

Make sure you selected "Clean list automatically" — the "Verify Only" mode does not modify your GetResponse lists. Allow a few minutes for changes to propagate. Check your "Unsubscribed" or "Deleted" contacts in GetResponse. Ensure the verification completed by checking Uploads & Results.

Best Practices for GetResponse List Hygiene

Before Your First Verification

Start with a smaller list to test the flow
Use "Verify Only" mode first to review results
Review results before enabling auto-cleaning

Ongoing List Hygiene

Verify monthly for active subscriber lists
Clean before major campaigns for max deliverability
Re-verify quarterly for stable lists with few additions

Recommended Actions

Invalid → Unsubscribe (will bounce)
Disposable → Delete (temporary emails)
Catch-all → Keep (may be valid)

Frequently Asked Questions

No. ValidEmailChecker only reads your contact data and optionally removes contacts. It does not affect your GetResponse plan, pricing, or any account settings. You are only charged credits on the ValidEmailChecker side.

The integration verifies contacts in your lists. Contacts that are part of active automations are included if they belong to a synced list. Verification does not affect your GetResponse automations or workflows — they continue running as normal.

It depends on the action you chose. "Unsubscribe" marks the contact as unsubscribed in that list — they can be found in your GetResponse suppression list. "Delete" permanently removes them from that list and they would need to opt in again. Neither action sends any notification to the contact.

Unsubscribed contacts can be resubscribed manually in GetResponse. Deleted contacts cannot be recovered — they would need to opt in again. This is why we recommend starting with "Verify Only" mode to review results before enabling automatic cleaning.

We recommend verifying monthly for active lists that receive new subscribers, before major campaigns for maximum deliverability, and quarterly for lists with minimal new additions. Email data decays at roughly 2% per month, so regular verification prevents small problems from becoming big ones.

Yes. Your API key is encrypted and stored securely on our servers. We only use it to fetch your lists and — if you choose automatic cleaning — update contact statuses. We never read email content, access your campaigns, or send emails on your behalf.

Absolutely. You can connect as many GetResponse accounts as you need. Give each one a unique, descriptive name (like "GR — Marketing Team" vs "GR — Client Account") so you can tell them apart in the dashboard.

If we cannot determine whether an email is valid or invalid — for example, if the mail server did not respond or timed out — the result is marked as "Unknown" and the credit is automatically returned to your account. You only pay for definitive results.
