How to Connect Elastic Email

The entire setup takes under a minute. Here is exactly what to do.

1

Create Your Elastic Email API Key

Log in to your Elastic Email account. Click Settings in the left sidebar, then click Manage API keys in the API section. Click Create additional API key, give it a descriptive name (e.g., "ValidEmailChecker Integration"), select Full access under Permissions, and click Create.

You will need:

API Key (Full Access)

a2f8e1c7d4b9a3e6f1c8...

Important: Copy your API key immediately after creating it — Elastic Email only shows it once. If you lose it, you will need to create a new one.

2

Connect Your Account

In ValidEmailChecker, go to Integrations in the sidebar and click + Connect Integration. Find and select Elastic Emailfrom the available platforms. Enter a friendly connection name (like "Main Marketing Account") and paste the API key you just copied. Click Connect Account and we will verify your credentials instantly and sync your lists.

Connection names matter: If you plan to connect multiple Elastic Email accounts, give each one a clear, descriptive name. You will thank yourself later when choosing which account to verify.

3

Select a List and Configure

Once connected, click Sync Now to pull all your Elastic Email lists with subscriber counts. Select the list you want to verify, then choose your mode: Verify Only to review results before making changes, or Clean Automatically to remove invalid and disposable emails from your Elastic Email list in real time. You control exactly what happens to each email type — unsubscribe, delete, or keep.

Tip:Start with "Verify Only" on your first run to review results before enabling automatic cleaning. This way you can see exactly what will be changed.

Track Results in Real Time

Click Start Verificationand you will be redirected to the Uploads & Results page where you can watch progress in real time. No need to refresh — the page updates automatically. For large lists, feel free to close the browser; verification continues in the background. When complete, you get a full breakdown: safe, invalid, risky, disposable, catch-all, and more. If you chose automatic cleaning, the changes are already applied to your Elastic Email list.

Two Ways to Verify

Verify Only

Import and verify your list without modifying anything in Elastic Email. Review results, download reports, and decide what to do next — on your terms.

Best for:

First-time verifications
Reviewing list health before campaigns
Compliance requirements
Cautious, hands-on approach

Clean Automatically Recommended

Verify and clean in one step. Invalid emails are unsubscribed or deleted directly from your Elastic Email list — no manual work required.

You control each email type:

Invalid → Unsubscribe, Delete, or Keep
Disposable → Unsubscribe, Delete, or Keep
Catch-all & Unknown → Your choice
Risky → Your choice

Tracking Your Verification Progress

Once verification starts, you are automatically redirected to the Uploads & Results page where everything updates in real time — no refreshing needed.

Same rate as all other verification methods.

Check credits in the top-right corner of your dashboard.

Credits Running Low?

If you do not have enough credits for your list size, you can purchase more credits instantly or set up auto-refill so you never run out during a critical verification.

Team Member Access

Team members can connect their own Elastic Email accounts and run verifications using the shared team credit balance. The account owner can see credits used by each team member in the transaction history.

Elastic Email Tips

API Key Permissions

The permission level of your API key determines what ValidEmailChecker can do with your Elastic Email account.

Full accessRecommended — supports all features
View onlyCan import and verify, but cannot auto-clean
PluginLimited — may not support all features
CustomDepends on your selected permissions

Keep Your API Key Safe

Your API key provides access to your Elastic Email account. Follow these security practices to keep it protected.

Never share your API key publicly or in code repositories
Elastic Email only shows the key once — copy it immediately
If you suspect a key is compromised, delete it and create a new one
Use a dedicated API key for ValidEmailChecker so you can revoke it independently

Lists vs Segments

ValidEmailChecker imports contact lists from Elastic Email — not segments. If your subscribers are organized into segments, make sure they also belong to a contact list in Elastic Email. When you sync your connection, only lists with at least one contact will appear in the list selector. If your lists are not showing, check that you have contact lists (not just segments) set up in Elastic Email, then click Sync Now to refresh.

Troubleshooting

"Invalid API Key" Error

Double-check that you copied the complete API key with no extra spaces before or after. Verify the key has not been deleted or regenerated in Elastic Email. Make sure the key has appropriate permissions — "Full access" is recommended for the best experience.

Lists Not Appearing

Click Sync Now to refresh your data. Check that you have contact lists (not just segments) in Elastic Email with at least one subscriber. Verify your API key has permission to view contacts. If lists still do not appear, try disconnecting and reconnecting with a fresh API key.

Verification Stuck or Failed

Check your ValidEmailChecker credit balance — you need enough credits for all emails in the list. Large lists with 10,000+ contacts may take several minutes to complete. The page auto-updates in real time, so no need to refresh. If the verification failed, try re-syncing your connection and starting again.

Some Emails Show "Unknown" Status

This happens when we cannot definitively verify an email — for example, the mail server did not respond or timed out. Credits for Unknown results are automatically refunded to your account. You can re-verify these emails later for a fresh check.

Changes Not Reflected in Elastic Email

Make sure you selected "Clean list automatically" — the "Verify Only" mode does not modify your Elastic Email lists. Verify your API key has "Full access" permissions, as lower permission levels cannot update contacts. Changes may take a few minutes to propagate in Elastic Email.

Best Practices for Elastic Email List Hygiene

Before Your First Verification

Start with a smaller list to test the flow
Use "Verify Only" mode first to review results
Check subscriber counts — sync if numbers seem off

Ongoing List Hygiene

Verify before major email campaigns
Clean lists monthly or quarterly
Re-verify lists that get new subscribers regularly

Recommended Actions

Invalid → Unsubscribe (will bounce)
Disposable → Delete (temporary emails)
Catch-all → Keep (may be valid)

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Connecting only allows ValidEmailChecker to read your contact lists and — if you choose automatic cleaning — update contact statuses. We never send emails, modify your campaigns, or change account settings.

It depends on list size. Under 1,000 emails takes just a few seconds. Lists of 1,000–10,000 typically finish in 1–5 minutes. Larger lists of 10,000–100,000 take 5–30 minutes, and lists over 100,000 emails may take 30 minutes to a few hours. You can close the browser — verification continues in the background.

Yes. You are charged per verification, so you can re-verify lists as often as needed — great for lists that get new subscribers regularly. Email data decays at roughly 2% per month, so periodic re-verification keeps your lists healthy.

Only the connection in ValidEmailChecker is removed. Your Elastic Email account, lists, contacts, and campaigns remain completely unchanged. You can always reconnect later with a new API key.

Yes. If you regenerate or delete your API key in Elastic Email, the existing connection will stop working. Delete the old connection in ValidEmailChecker and create a new one with your updated API key.

For full functionality including automatic cleaning, your API key needs "Full access" permissions. A "View only" key will let you import and verify lists but cannot update contact statuses. We recommend Full access for the best experience.

Absolutely. You can connect as many Elastic Email accounts as you need. Give each one a unique, descriptive name (like "EE — Client Newsletter" vs "EE — Internal List") so you can tell them apart in the dashboard.

If we cannot determine whether an email is valid or invalid — for example, if the mail server did not respond or timed out — the result is marked as "Unknown" and the credit is automatically returned to your account. You only pay for definitive results.
