Finding Your Drip API Token

Your API Token is a long string of characters that authenticates ValidEmailChecker with your Drip account.

How to find your API Token:

1

Open Settings

Click the gear icon in the bottom-left corner of your Drip sidebar.

2

Go to User Settings

Click User Settings, then scroll to the User Info section.

3

Copy API Token

Find your API Token and copy the full string exactly as shown.

Keep Your API Token Secret

Your API Token provides full access to your Drip account. Never share it publicly or commit it to version control. If you think it has been compromised, regenerate it immediately in Drip.

How to Connect Drip

The entire setup takes under a minute. Here is exactly what to do.

1

Get Your API Token

Log in to your Drip account. Click the Settings gear icon in the bottom-left corner of the sidebar, then click User Settings. In the User Info section, scroll down to find your API Token. Copy the entire string — even a small typo or extra space will prevent the connection from working.

Then choose your mode: Verify Only to review results before making changes, or Clean Automatically to remove invalid and disposable emails directly in Drip.

Tip: Start with "Verify Only" on your first run to review results before enabling automatic cleaning. This lets you see exactly what would change before committing.

Two Ways to Verify

Verify Only

Import and verify your subscribers without modifying anything in Drip. Review results, download reports, and decide what to do next — on your terms.

Best for:

First-time verifications
Understanding your list quality
Pre-campaign audits
Compliance requirements

Clean Automatically Recommended

Verify and clean in one step. Invalid emails get unsubscribed or deleted directly from your Drip account — no manual work required.

You control:

Invalid → Unsubscribe, Delete, or Keep
Disposable → Unsubscribe, Delete, or Keep
Catch-all & Risky → Your choice

Delete vs Unsubscribe in Drip

Understanding the difference helps you choose the right cleaning action for each email type.

Delete

Permanently removes the subscriber and all their data from Drip. They are gone completely — tags, custom fields, purchase history, and activity log are all erased.

Best for:

Disposable and throwaway email addresses
Fake signups and spam entries
Emails you never want back in your database

Unsubscribe

Keeps the subscriber record but globally unsubscribes them from all mailings. Their tags, custom fields, purchase history, and activity log are preserved.

Best for:

Invalid emails where you want to preserve history
Customers with purchase data you want to keep
Emails that might be corrected and re-added later

Our Recommendation

Use Unsubscribe for Invalid emails (preserves ecommerce history) and Delete for Disposable emails (fake or temporary addresses you do not want in your database). Keep Catch-all and Risky emails for manual review.

Understanding Drip's List Structure

All Active Subscribers

Your entire subscriber database — every active contact in your Drip account, regardless of tags, workflows, or how they were acquired.

Best for:

Full database audits
First-time comprehensive verifications
Quarterly or annual list hygiene
Pre-migration cleanups

Tags

Labels applied to subscribers for segmentation — such as "Newsletter," "Purchased," "Abandoned Cart," or "Lead Magnet." Verify each segment independently.

Best for:

Targeting your most engaged segments
Pre-campaign verification
Verifying specific acquisition sources
Ecommerce customer segments

Tracking Your Verification Progress

Once verification starts, you are automatically redirected to the Uploads & Results page where everything updates in real time — no refreshing needed.

Managing Your Drip Connection

Connection Actions

Click the three-dot menu next to any connection on your Integrations page:

Sync Now

Refresh subscriber lists and tag counts from Drip.

Rename

Change the connection display name — helpful for multiple accounts.

Delete

Remove this connection entirely. Does not affect your Drip account.

Multiple Accounts

Manage multiple Drip accounts for different stores, clients, or businesses.

1

Go to Bulk Upload → Connect Email Platform

2

Select Drip and see existing connections

3

Click "+ Add Another Account"

4

Enter the new account's API Token and give it a unique name

Name each connection clearly: "Store — US," "Store — EU," "Client — ABC Company."

Credits & Billing

1 Credit = 1 Email

Same rate as all other verification methods.

Unknown = Refunded

Credits returned instantly for unverifiable emails.

Duplicates = Free

Removed before charging — you only pay for unique emails.

Connecting = Free

Syncing subscribers and tags never uses credits.

Credits Running Low?

If you do not have enough credits for your list size, you can purchase more credits instantly or set up auto-refill so you never run out during a critical verification.

Team Member Access

Team members can connect their own Drip accounts and run verifications using the shared team credit balance. The account owner can see credits used by each team member in the transaction history.

Why Ecommerce Lists Need Extra Attention

Marketing automation amplifies the damage of bad emails. Here is why Drip lists deserve regular verification.

Broken Workflows

An invalid email entering a 10-step nurture sequence means 10 wasted sends, skewed open-rate analytics, and gradually eroding sender reputation over time.

Disposable Signups

Ecommerce stores attract disposable email signups from coupon hunters and one-time discount seekers. These addresses stop working within hours or days.

Revenue Impact

High bounce rates can land your transactional and marketing emails in spam. That means missed order confirmations, abandoned cart emails that never arrive, and lost revenue.

Troubleshooting

"Invalid API Token" Error

Double-check the token by copying it again from Drip → Settings → User Settings → API Token. Make sure you did not accidentally copy extra whitespace before or after the value. Ensure your Drip user account has API access enabled. If the token was revoked or compromised, generate a new one in Drip.

"No Subscribers Found"

Check that your subscribers are set to "Active" in Drip — only active subscribers are imported. Click Sync Now to re-fetch subscriber data. If filtering by tag, ensure the tag has active subscribers attached. Tags with no active subscribers will not appear.

Cleaning Actions Not Working

Your API Token needs full account access — check your Drip user permissions. Only active subscribers can be modified through the API. Drip has a rate limit of 3,600 API requests per hour, so large lists are processed gradually. Allow a few extra minutes for changes to reflect.

Tags Not Appearing

Tags with no active subscribers will not appear in the list. Click Sync Now to refresh tag data. For very large accounts, tags are sampled from the first several thousand subscribers — some rarely-used tags may not surface immediately.

Verification Takes Too Long

Large lists with 10,000+ subscribers may take several minutes to complete. The page auto-updates in real time — no need to refresh. If stuck for more than 30 minutes, contact support.

Some Emails Show "Unknown" Status

This happens when we cannot definitively verify an email — for example, the mail server did not respond or timed out. Credits for Unknown results are automatically refunded to your account. You can re-verify these emails later.

Best Practices for Drip List Hygiene

Before Your First Verification

Start with a smaller tag to test the process
Use "Verify Only" mode first
Review results before enabling auto-cleaning
Understand Delete vs Unsubscribe differences

Ongoing List Hygiene

Verify monthly for active ecommerce stores
Clean before Black Friday, sales, and launches
Verify new acquisition sources independently
Monitor sender reputation after each clean

Recommended Actions

Invalid → Unsubscribe (preserves history)
Disposable → Delete (fake/temporary emails)
Catch-all → Keep (may be valid)
Unknown → Keep (review manually)

Frequently Asked Questions

"Verify Only" mode has zero impact on Drip — nothing changes in your account. If you use "Clean Automatically," deleted or unsubscribed contacts will be removed from active workflows. This is actually a good thing: it stops invalid emails from wasting sends in your 10-step nurture sequences.

Currently, we import by account-wide subscribers or tags. To verify workflow-specific subscribers, add a unique tag to those contacts in Drip first, then verify that tag in ValidEmailChecker. This gives you precise control over which segment you are verifying.

Delete permanently removes the subscriber and all their data from Drip — they are gone completely. Unsubscribe keeps the record (purchase history, tags, custom fields) but stops all email communications. Use Delete for disposable and fake emails. Use Unsubscribe for invalid emails where you want to preserve the subscriber's history.

Yes. The Drip API handles routing automatically based on your account settings. No additional configuration is needed — ValidEmailChecker works with both US and EU Drip accounts.

For ecommerce stores with active acquisition, we recommend monthly verification. Before major campaigns like Black Friday, product launches, or seasonal sales, do an additional verification. Email data decays at roughly 2% per month, and ecommerce lists often decay faster due to disposable signups.

Yes. Your API Token is encrypted and stored securely on our servers. We only use it to fetch your subscribers and — if you choose automatic cleaning — update subscriber statuses. We never read email content, access your campaigns, modify workflows, or send emails on your behalf.

Yes. Deleting a connection in ValidEmailChecker only removes it from our system. Your Drip account is completely unaffected. Simply connect again with the same API Token. Your previous verification history remains in ValidEmailChecker.

If we cannot determine whether an email is valid or invalid — for example, if the mail server did not respond or timed out — the result is marked as "Unknown" and the credit is automatically returned to your account. You only pay for definitive results.

Absolutely. Connect as many Drip accounts as you need — one for each store, client, or business. Give each a unique name (like "Store — US" vs "Store — EU") so you can tell them apart in the dashboard.

No. Connecting and syncing your account is completely free. You only use credits when you actually verify emails — 1 credit per email, same as every other verification method. Duplicates are removed before charging.
